About Kyly Whitfield
Dr. Kyly Whitfield is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Applied Human Nutrition at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, where she leads the Milk and Micronutrient Assessment (MAMA) Lab. She is passionate about maternal and infant nutrition, with interests in identifying and combating micronutrient deficiencies, and understanding feeding during ‘the first thousand days’ window, from conception through 2 years. A major focus of the MAMA Lab is identifying culturally appropriate public health interventions to combat micronutrient deficiencies in low-resource settings, especially thiamine deficiency among breastfed infants in Southeast Asia. Another area of interest is examining breastfeeding culture and social infant feeding norms in Canada.
